About

I grew up in London and Kent, with Ireland also a big part of our lives.  I studied classics at Balliol College, University of Oxford, and joined the British Army where I served for four years, in Cyprus, Germany, Namibia and Northern Ireland.

Since then I have worked as a civilian, on most aspects of conflict. The main themes have been: dealing with the conflict itself (can it be stopped, or at least reduced?); keeping people safe while the conflict continues; and humanitarian aid. First overseas, for the EU, the UN and Christian Aid in Bosnia/Croatia, Rwanda and Congo respectively.  Latterly based in the UK, as an independent consultant for aid agencies and various parts of the British government.  From 2012 to 2019, as a contractor, I led the operational arm of the UK Stabilisation Unit.

More detail is here. Wider work-related interests are here. I'm married with two children and live in Kent where I'm involved in community and church life. I am a dual British and Irish national.
